In order to foster better understanding of the various components of exporting, Connecticut’s Export University will be launched in January 2010 and will be held in several locations throughout the state. These one-day sessions will have multiple tracks for different levels of export assistance and will cater to the different topics and concerns faced by the new or the experienced exporter. These tracks include:
Export 101
This track will be led by the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the Small Business Administration (SBA) and SCORE, and is for companies that are new or have never exported. Topics covered will include:
- Oslash; Is your product or service exportable?
- Oslash; What does your company need to do to become export ready?
- Oslash; What are the easiest/best markets for your product or service?
- Oslash; What are the risks?
- Oslash; Is export funding available?
Export 201
This track will be led by DOC, SBA and the Connecticut District Export Council (DEC), and is for companies that are reactive exporters and want to increase exports. Topics covered will include:

- Oslash; Standards and Specifications for export markets
- Oslash; Export Licenses and Controls
- Oslash; Export Procedures and Documentation
- Oslash; Globalize your website for export sales
- Oslash; Export Finance & “Selling the Sale” to funders
- Oslash; Payments and Fraud in the Global Market Place
- Oslash; Making the most of a Trade Show
- Oslash; Bidding and Winning NATO Contracts
- Oslash; Dealing with Representatives, Agents, Distributors and Creating Joint Ventures
Each participant will receive a certificate of completion from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
